What is Markdown?
Markdown is a plain-text format for headings, lists, links and emphasis. It is the native format of README files, issue trackers and many note apps, and it converts cleanly to HTML.
How to use this tool
- Type or paste Markdown into the left pane.
- The right pane re-renders as you type.
- Use Load sample to see the supported syntax.
- Copy the Markdown or the generated HTML.
FAQ
Which syntax is supported?
Headings, bold and italic, inline code and fenced code blocks, links, unordered and ordered lists, blockquotes and horizontal rules — the subset that covers almost every README.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The Markdown is parsed and rendered by JavaScript in your browser. The page keeps working offline.
Can I paste the HTML into a website?
Yes. The generated HTML uses plain tags without classes or inline styles, so it inherits the styling of wherever you paste it.
Why does an unusual table or footnote not render?
Tables, footnotes and definition lists are Markdown extensions, not part of the original syntax. This editor keeps to the core subset so the output stays predictable.
